Yet, I feel an odd kinship with its narrator, his demonic resistance to the good, his opposition to god and man. N’ouvre pas tes yeux! I had never heard of the book before, but intrigued I read the first ten pages while sitting among the shelves.

I was unable to return to the bookstore for several weeks; in those intervening days I lapsed into a deep depression. But beware of the monsters!
